With the first heat wave of the summer just around the corner, the Hellenic Red Cross has published 10 tips for better protection from high temperatures.
The Greek Red Cross, among others, suggests dressing lightly, while it is important to be hydrated and to eat adequately and properly during hot days.
The 10 tips from the Hellenic Red Cross for the heat
- Stay in a shady place
- Keep the house cool
- Stay hydrated
- Eat properly and adequately
- Stay in touch with family, friends and neighbors
- Dress lightly
- Avoid vigorous exercise and unnecessary movement
- Do not consume alcohol
- Take care of your pets
- Do not leave children or pets in unventilated cars
How long will the heat wave last in Greece?
Heatwave conditions will prevail today and until Wednesday in the country, according to the EMY forecast.
The temperature will fluctuate at high levels and in the continental areas it will locally reach 40 to 41 degrees Celsius.
Today the weather will be generally clear, with temporary clouds in the mid-afternoon hours in the mainland, where isolated storms will probably occur in the mountainous areas of the northern country.
Winds to the west will be variable light at first and will become west northwest to 4 Beaufort from midday. In the east it will blow from northerly directions 3 to 5 and from noon in the Aegean locally 6 Beaufort.
The temperature will remain high. It will reach 33 to 34 degrees in the Cyclades, 35 to 37 degrees in the rest of the island country and 39 to 39 and locally 40 to 41 degrees Celsius.
