After a “derby” match, Stefanos Tsitsipas “bent” Alexander Shevchenko with a 2-1 set and qualified for the final of the Gstaad Open.
In a semi-final for strong nerves, Stefanos Tsitsipas showed composure and character to prevail 2-1 set (6-4, 3-6, 6-3) in Alexander Shevchenko and advanced to his final Gstaad Open (250 yards).
In Sunday’s final (19/07, 12:30), the opponent of the Greek champion will be the 24-year-old Belgian Rafael Collignon (No. 42 in the world), who defeated the Argentine Juan Manuel Cerundolo 1-6, 7-6, 7-5.
Let’s note that Tsitsipas is returning to the finals after 17 months (end of February 2025, to be precise) and will claim his 13th title, in 31 finals in total (12-18 record).

As for the development of the match against Shevchenko in the first set, Tsitsipas was particularly effective on his serve, losing just one point in five games. At the same time, he didn’t let go the break opportunity in the seventh game, taking the lead to win 6-4 and make it 1-0.
The continuation, however, was not similar, as Stefanos was affected by a fall on the court at the beginning of the second set. Shevchenko earned his first break of the match to take a 3-1 lead, while the Greek lost four break points in the seventh game. So his opponent from Kazakhstan took the set 6-3 and tied it at 1-1.
In the third and last set, however, “Steph” showed his determination not to leave any more room for Shevchenko. Finding his effectiveness on the serve again, he raised his performance and even if he missed several opportunities to “break” his opponent’s serve, he managed to prevail. A double fault by Shevchenko brought the valuable break for Tsitsipas (5-3), who “cleared” the final victory qualifying his serve.
